Alex Willis Luthier
Below is an extract from the IAC website. Harry Lederman and Allan Tutt were looking for a project to film for a competition and chose me, the film had one several international film competitions. We first came across Alex Willis, a local guitar maker and repairer, at a Craft Fair and I remembered him when we were looking for our next project. A hand made guitar can take up to 250 hours to complete, so it is not surprising that, between January and December 2008, we shot over twenty-two hours of his work. The guitar was a labour of love for Alex, destined for his father-in-law who lives in San Francisco, so the making was fitted in amongst his regular repair and commissioned work. He intended to give it to him on a visit to America for his father-in-law's birthday in August 2008. Guitar by Harry Lederman and Alan Tutt got a 5-star award at BIAFF 2009 and a sponsor's award from Boosey & Hawkes
