Aronian Smashes Volokitin's Schlechter Slav

This is a sharp chess game between Levon Aronian and Andrei Volokitin from the 2008 European Club Cup. Facing the Slav Defense, Schlechter Variation, Aronian takes early steps to restrict Volokitin’s light-squared bishop. When Volokitin increases the pressure on c4 with ...Be6, a tense battle unfolds. Aronian does not immediately resolve the tension but instead challenges the bishop, triggering an exchange and a shift in structure. His energetic 12.g4 already places Volokitin in a critical position, and from there, sharp play follows.
