Barbershop Theory 6 - What is rubato?
Join this channel to become a member: / @barbershoptagalong The 6th installment of Barbershop Theory and this episode is all about rubato in music and how it is used in the barbershop style. Rubato will enable you to tell better stories with your music, and make your music sound more alive. Barbershop build on top of the general definition of rubato and takes the idea of rhythmic freedom to a whole new level. A few of you have been confused about the difference in note length when it comes to sheet music versus performances - and for good reason. It's very confusing if you are new to barbershop. In this video I dive into the topic of rubato performance and how it is used in barbershop. I take you through different examples - both in and outside the barbershop style - that illustrates how singers and performers deviate from the sheet music to create a better story. It is also my very first video using the software Doodly to make a doodle style video. I hope you like it.
