The Case For Ducted Fan VTOL
AVID LLC specializes in ducted fan design and aerodynamics. This presentation that was given at AUVSI Unmanned Systems North America 2011 explains the unique benefits of ducted fan systems. The ducted fan is more efficient at producing thrust for a given amount of power than open propellers and rotors, and thereby enables high payload capacity in a small form factor vehicle. The presentation lists many other advantages that could benefit aircraft propulsion or unmanned aerial vehicle designs.
