Classic Old Time Radio, vintage radio shows, the Golden Age of radio, BBC Radio, murder, mystery, drama, comedy, scifi, westerns. ========================================== When a wealthy French widow dies under suspicious circumstances, an English investigator is drawn into a maze of forged wills, hidden motives, and a household full of secrets, where every polite gesture conceals a deeper threat. As he unravels the conflicting testimonies and unsettling clues surrounding her death, he discovers that the truth lies buried beneath layers of deception, fear, and a crime executed with chilling precision. BBC Radio has broadcast a few different adaptations of A.E.W. Mason's classic Inspector Hanaud mystery, *The House of the Arrow*, over the decades. The two most notable productions aired as part of the BBC's flagship drama slots: 1. The 1984 Adaptation (Most Widely Circulated) Broadcast Date: February 4, 1984 (at 20:30) Radio Station: BBC Radio 4 (FM) Program Slot: Saturday-Night Theatre (under the themed banner "Murder for Pleasure") Cast & Crew: Adapted by Alan Downer and directed by Christopher Venning. It starred Richard Pasco as Inspector Hanaud, Benedick Blythe as Jim Frobisher, and Moir Leslie as Betty Harlowe. 2. The 1943 Adaptation (The Earliest) Broadcast Date: June 5, 1943 Radio Station: BBC Home Service Program Slot: Saturday-Night Theatre Crew: This wartime production was adapted for the radio by Cynthia Pughe. There was also a later BBC Radio 4 broadcast of a different Inspector Hanaud story, At the Villa Rose*, in October 1999, but the 1984 production remains the definitive, full-length BBC radio version of *The House of the Arrow that collectors and classic radio fans archive today.
