KOROZJA elektrochemiczna #107

Corrosion is the process of metal destruction under the influence of various factors. It is associated with the rusting of iron. Rust is a mixture of hydroxides, oxides, and carbonates of iron II and III. Electrochemical corrosion occurs in the presence of an electrolyte. During corrosion, a compact corrosion cell is formed, which can be considered a typical galvanic cell. At the anode, the base metal is oxidized, while at the cathode, depending on the pH of the electrolyte, oxygen or hydrogen cations are reduced. Rust does not protect the iron surface from further corrosion. Later in the video, I provide a step-by-step explanation of how a steel nail rusts in various electrolytes and when wrapped in zinc or copper wire. The steel nail wrapped in zinc wire did not rust because the zinc, being a more base metal, corroded, thus protecting the iron from corrosion. This method of protecting iron from corrosion is called galvanization. In sample 5, however, the steel nail wrapped in copper wire rusted because copper is a more noble metal than iron. In this video, I discuss the process of chrome plating or zinc plating as an example of electroplating. This is another video on this topic of electrochemistry. In the first video, Chemistry #78, I explain step by step what a half-cell, a cell, and an EMF are, and I talk about the processes occurring in the half-cells of a cell:    • PÓŁOGNIWA i OGNIWA galwaniczne cz.1 #78      • ZADANIA z półogniw i OGNIW galwanicznych c...   In the second video, I solve problems involving cells:    • ZADANIA z półogniw i OGNIW galwanicznych c...   In the third video, I discuss electrolysis:    • Elektroliza - prosto wytłumaczona z przykł...   To understand the processes occurring at the anode and cathode, it's important to remember what oxidation and reduction are. I invite you to watch my video on this topic:    • Jak bilansować równania  r. utlenienia i r...   You also need to know what dissociation is to be able to write equations for ions in solution:    • DYSOCJACJA  kwasów, zasad i soli.  #57   The last thing you need to understand before cells is the activity series of metals:    • SZEREG AKTYWNOŚCI METALI - jak go czytać. ...   In the second part of this video, I will solve problems. Given two half-cells, I will assemble a cell from it, indicate which cell is the anode and which is the cathode, calculate the electromotive force, and indicate the processes occurring at the electrodes.
