Weak Things Made Strong

Ether 12 Summary Ether 12 is one of the great chapters on faith, hope, charity, and overcoming weakness in the Book of Mormon. The chapter begins with the prophet Ether preaching to the Jaredites, but Moroni then expands on Ether's teachings and shares some of his own powerful testimony. Key Teachings 1. Faith comes before miracles Moroni teaches that faith is believing in things that are true but not yet seen. We receive a witness after the trial of our faith, not before. Many miracles throughout scripture happened because people exercised faith first. 2. Faith leads to hope Those who believe in God can have a sure hope of a better world. Hope acts as an "anchor" to the soul, helping us remain steadfast during trials. 3. Great works are accomplished through faith Moroni gives examples of people who accomplished remarkable things through faith: The brother of Jared saw Jesus Christ. Prophets performed miracles. Mountains were moved. Prison walls fell. People received divine promises and blessings. 4. God gives us weakness so we can become humble One of the most beloved verses in scripture is Ether 12:27: "I give unto men weakness that they may be humble." The Lord teaches that if we come unto Him and exercise faith, He can make weak things become strong. Moroni was especially concerned about his weakness in writing, and the Lord comforted him with this promise.
