판게아 당시 지구는 어떤 모습이었나요? | 지구 역사 다큐멘터리

Six continents surrounded by vast waters—this is the familiar image of Earth that we have all shared since childhood. However, Earth has not always looked this way. Over the past 4.6 billion years, Earth has gone through various geological eras. In some of these eras, almost the entire surface was covered in ice, while in others, conversely, the polar ice caps completely melted. In the distant past, continents were not arranged as they are today. Land blocks moved relative to one another, leading to continental drift, collisions, and the emergence of supercontinents that integrated almost all continents. For reference, the video will be posted on Sunday at 6 PM. ------------------------ 💥 Pangaea: The word "Pangea" is derived from the Greek words Pan (meaning "all"), which means "all lands," and Gaia, which means "Earth." Since Pangaea was once a single landmass where all lands were gathered in one place, this name perfectly describes a supercontinent. A supercontinent refers to a continent composed of most or all of the Earth's landmass. The most recent and famous supercontinent, encompassing all of Earth's major continents, is Pangaea. Supercontinents have sporadically merged and separated throughout Earth's geological history. Remember that Earth's geological history is a series of events that occurred during the process of Earth's development as a planet. These events include the formation of rocks, the appearance and destruction of landforms, the advance and retreat of oceans, ice ages, and the emergence and extinction of biological species. The most modern definition emphasizes that a supercontinent is a geological formation that, due to its structure, influences the distribution of heat flows and Earth's air masses. It is a massive structure, but it does not necessarily integrate all continental blocks. In the distant past, all continents formed the supercontinent Pangaea, which was a single whole. This massive continent began to form during the Paleozoic era, approximately 335 million years ago. During the formation of Pangaea from the old continents, mountain systems appeared at the collision points, some of which still exist today, such as the Urals or Appalachian Mountains. These early mountain ranges are much older than relatively young mountain ranges such as the European Alps, the Cordillera Mountains in North America, the Andes in South America, or the Himalayas in Asia. Due to erosion over millions of years, the Ural and Appalachian Mountains have now become low mountain ranges. Most of this supercontinent was concentrated in the Southern Hemisphere. The only ocean surrounding this continent was called the "Panthalassa." Life during the Pangaea era was different from today. The climate was warmer, and the flora and fauna were completely different. Pangea split into two continents approximately 150 million to 220 million years ago. The northern continent of Laurasia separated into Eurasia and North America, while the southern continent of Gondwana gave birth to Africa, South America, India, Australia, and Antarctica. Supercontinents like Rodinia, which collapsed about 750 million years ago, existed earlier. According to some predictions, the continents of Africa, the Americas, and Eurasia will collide in about 250 million years to rejoin into a supercontinent called 'Pangea Ultima'. ------------------------ Today's Agenda: 0:00 Introduction 3:51 What is a supercontinent? 9:11 Theory of Continental Drift 19:00 Evidence for the Existence of Pangaea 27:10 The Working Principles of Plate Tectonics 33:43 How was Pangaea formed? 36:08 Why did Pangaea disintegrate? 45:06 How did the disintegration of Pangaea affect life on Earth? 48:00 What was the climate like during the time of Pangaea? - 53:02 The Animal World of the Pangaea Era 56:40 The Plant World of Pangaea 1:00:13 Traces of Mass Extinction 01:05:10 What would Earth look like today if Pangaea had not disintegrated? 01:08:18 What will the future supercontinent of Earth look like?
