How to Get New Customers For Your Screen Printing Business - Advice From 6 Experts
How should you get new customers for your screen printing business? This is an age-old question with an answer that's always evolving and changing with the times. Whether you do screen printing, DTG or embroidery – or even just contract out your printing – the first step is getting new customers. We asked 6 long-time industry experts to spill the beans about the best way to land new customers. Here's who we asked: Charlie Taublieb - Taublieb Consulting Rick Roth - The Ink Kitchen Mark Coudray - Coudray Technologies Richard Greaves - Member, Academy of Screen and Digital Printing Technologies Scott Fresener - T-Biz Network Alan Howe - SAATI Here's a few of their awesome tips: 1. Join local business and networking clubs to develop your business reputation around town. You have to get your name out there! 2. Target the niche you really want to do business in. Pick a couple niches to become very competent in – the types of garments, how they're printed, how they're distributed and sold, who they're for, what kind of events are part of that niche – and really excel at becoming an expert in serving those customers. 3. Keep good customers happy. The 80/20 rule is true: 20 percent of your customers can be 80% of your business. So remember to really nurture your big clients. 4. Remember that new customers are really hard to get. You may not get the customer to send you all of their work right away. Most new customers are going to be challenging until you align with their needs, so proceed with caution! 5. Pick up the phone, show up in person, and make a real impression. This still gets you much further than any other form of outreach. 6. Work smarter, not harder. Broker, sub-contract, and network to expand your capabilities. See opportunity everywhere: signage, promotional products, branding. Keep nurturing and developing your customers so they trust you with everything. Marketing and sales tactics can take many forms. There's no right or wrong way to do it – only what works, and the things that teach you what doesn't work. But marketing and sales are an essential part of every printing business.
