I was driving through Washington and decided to stop and do a reconnaissance mission scoping out Kachess Lake Campground, with attention both on the quality of the Campsites and the Shoreline Access for ease of entrance/exit of Kayaking directly from the Campsite, with intentions to use Kachess Lake Campground as a Base Camp for future premium Day Hikes in the area and incredible world-class Kayaking. I Hiked through the Campground with a particular emphasis on the Gale Creek, Thetis Creek, and Box Canyon Loops of the Kachess Lake Campground Complex since they were the most Shoreline situated. I did this on 5/21/2022, 6 days before the official start of the camping season on 5/27/2022, and there was still some patches of snow on the Forest Road in the last few tenths of a mile as well as scattered around the Kachess Lake Campground. The weather was inconsistent, some sun breaks, blue sky, clouds and ultimately sprinkling rain and overcast, with a low in the high 30's and a high in the 50's. There were a few mosquitoes I believe I saw that were just starting to hatch but didn't cause me any issues. As far as road conditions, it's Highway to the turn off for Kachess Lake which is a paved road until a little bumpy road as the final segment, it is an easy and safe driving route. In my opinion, the road most definitely DOES NOT require 4-Wheel Drive or high clearance, however do watch for road conditions, particularly snow/ice depending on the time of year, and of course do so at your own risk!
