Over the next six years, approximately one thousand churches will close their doors for worship. That's 166 per year and fourteen per month. These are the hard figures from Donatus, the largest insurer of churches and monuments in the Netherlands. According to the insurer, this includes 500 Roman Catholic and 500 Protestant churches. The contrast with the municipality of Neder-Betuwe could hardly be greater.
