HISTÓRIA DE BRASÍLIA | Desde as Primeiras Ideias | Globalizando Conhecimento

The history of Brasília begins in the mid-18th century, when the first ideas of transferring Brazil's capital to the interior emerged. Over time, several locations were suggested for the new capital. With the promulgation of the Brazilian Constitution of 1891, the relocation of the capital to the interior was decreed, and the location of the new capital was fixed in the Central Plateau. However, a movement of parliamentarians against the change prevented this from happening until the mid-20th century. In the 1940s, the government considered Rio de Janeiro, then the capital of Brazil, too hectic and no longer suitable as the country's capital. This led to the transfer project moving forward and being implemented during the government of Juscelino Kubitschek in 1956. Brasília was inaugurated on April 21, 1960, and from that moment on, the capital has not stopped growing and today is the third largest city in Brazil. In this video, you'll understand how the first ideas about Brasília emerged, how they were put into practice, and how Brasília became the capital of Brazil as we know it today.
