Killzone 1: Revisiting Playstation's Halo Killer | A Story Retrospective

Killzone is a grim, gritty sci-fi fps series set in a bleak world where the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance, or ISA, warrs against the Helghan Empire. The series is a Playstation exclusive, and before the first games’ launch, it was even heralded as the Halo killer. Of course, with the power of hindsight, we can see that this future never came to be. Killzone spawned a number of sequels, but it has been dormant since 2013. With all these years passed, with all of the hype having come and gone, I want to take a look back at this series, starting with the first entry, Killzone. In this retrospective video game essay, we will look at the game, as it stands alone, without any hype or controversy, and see how it tells its story and how it builds its world.
