고창 고인돌 유적(유네스코 세계문화유산)전북 고창

Dolmens are a representative burial style of the Bronze Age, and it is known that over 30,000 of them are distributed throughout Korea. They are particularly densely concentrated along the southwestern coast of the Korean Peninsula, including Jeonnam and Jeonbuk. According to a 2003 survey, 2,632 dolmens were found to be distributed across 424 clusters in the Jeonbuk region. In particular, as of the 2023 survey, Gochang County was identified as home to 1,748 dolmens, accounting for over 65% of the total in Jeonbuk. The Gochang Dolmen Site is clustered across the areas of Jukrim-ri, Sanggap-ri, and Dosan-ri, and was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in December 2000. Not only does it form the largest single cluster in Korea, but it also features a diverse distribution of dolmens of various types—such as table-type, checkerboard-type, and capstone-type—within a single area. Furthermore, the existence of quarries that reveal the construction process of the dolmens serves as important data for clarifying the evolutionary history of dolmens in Northeast Asia. The World Heritage Committee recognized its value as a World Heritage site by applying Criterion 3 (unique or very old). [Source: Gochang-gun Website] [Video Inquiry: [email protected]]
