As coastal and offshore industries continue to expand, the need for robust, science-based guidance to safeguard marine biodiversity is more important than ever. The MARCIS tool has been designed to assess the cumulative impact of marine stressors on seabird populations and can be used as a decision support tool to support marine spatial planning. MARCIS brings together detailed spatial data on marine industries and seabird populations’ year-round distribution, cutting-edge assessments of population and species sensitivity to stressors, and analyses of cumulative impacts from offshore windfarms, fisheries, oil and gas operations, shipping and climate change. MARCIS is a four-year research project (2021 – 2025) financed by the Research Council of Norway.
