Why The BMW XM Is My Favourite SUV

Today we’re driving the absolutely wild BMW XM Label Red — the most powerful production BMW M model ever made — and trying to answer a few crazy questions: Is this my favourite SUV? Does it make no sense? And does it have one major problem? On paper, the XM is a full-size luxury SUV with plug-in hybrid tech… but in reality it feels like BMW gave the engineers a V8, battery, and no rules and said “just go for it.” The result is one of the biggest, loudest, most aggressive SUVs on the planet. 🔥 SPEC HIGHLIGHTS – BMW XM Label Red • Engine: 4.4 L Twin-Turbo V8 petrol + electric motor (M Hybrid) • Max Power: ~748 hp / ~1,000 Nm torque combined • 0-60 mph: ~3.4–3.8 s (varies by source/testing) • Top Speed: ~155 mph (250 km/h) limited • Drive: AWD with M xDrive & adaptive suspension • Electric Range (est): up to ~40 miles (WLTP-ish) This thing is insane fast for a luxury SUV, and as you’ll see in the video, it plants you into the seat with brutal authority. But that’s where the fun and the quandary starts. 💭 WHY IT MAKES NO SENSE (YET I LOVE IT) The XM feels like an SUV designed by an engine purist: loud, heavy, aggressive, and performance-first. It doesn’t behave like a typical luxury SUV — it doesn’t float softly over bumps or whisper its way down the highway — it attacks. That raw character is exactly why I love it. But… that leads right into the major issue: ⚠️ THE MAJOR PROBLEM This car sits in no man’s land. It’s too performance-oriented to feel like a traditional luxury cruiser, yet too big and heavy to truly compete with focused performance SUVs or smaller M models. It doesn’t neatly fit into a category, and that identity confusion is as fascinating as it is frustrating. In this video I cover: • What the XM Label Red actually feels like on the road • How the hybrid system transforms the V8 experience • Whether this is actually a luxury SUV or more of a quirky M-car • What works — and what doesn’t — in real-world driving situations Let me know in the comments what YOU think — is the XM brilliant, bewildering, or both? 👇 #BMWXM #BMWXMLEVELRED #CarReview #LuxurySUV #PerformanceSUV #BMWM #Automotive
