Topotepuy: el único jardín autosustentable de Venezuela

East of Caracas, just half an hour from the capital, lie the Topotepuy Gardens, a place to disconnect from the noisy city and enjoy nature and ecology. Open to the public since 2009, this garden was created by William and Kathleen Phelps, who purchased the land in 1959 and drew inspiration from London gardens to assemble the largest private collection of plants and birds in South America. As a private enterprise, it receives almost no state funding, which has forced them to find ways to be self-sustaining without government support. Currently, all the seeds used in the garden are grown on-site, and they reuse 100% of the water they consume.
