This video details the entire production process of a simple solid wood long bench. Every step of the operation is clearly visible, even beginners can follow along. Material Preparation: Select dry hardwood (pine or oak is recommended), cut 1 long bench top (size approx. 120cm×30cm×2.5cm), 4 bench legs (size approx. 45cm×5cm×5cm), 2 long horizontal braces (size approx. 110cm×4cm×3cm), and 2 short horizontal braces (size approx. 28cm×4cm×3cm). All wood materials are sanded in advance to remove burrs to avoid scratching hands during subsequent operations and ensure the overall load-bearing stability of the long bench. 2. Bench Top Treatment: The long bench top does not need to be spliced. directly plane the surface of the bench top flat and straight with a plane to remove surface defects and uneven areas; then initially sand both sides and edges of the bench top with sandpaper to remove burrs, ensuring the surface of the bench top is smooth and ready for subsequent assembly. 3. Bench Leg Processing: Divide the 4 bench legs into two groups (corresponding to the two ends of the long bench). On the top of each bench leg, mark the installation positions of the long horizontal braces and short horizontal braces with a tape measure and a pencil (the long brace is 5cm from the top, and the short brace is 15cm from the long brace); drill 2 holes with a diameter of 8mm vertically with a drill bit, the depth of the hole is about 2cm, avoid drilling through the bench leg. At the same time, sand the bottom end of the bench leg into a 45° bevel to enhance the stability of the long bench when standing and prevent slipping. 4. Cross Brace Installation: First, correspond the 2 long horizontal braces to the drilling positions of the bench legs at both ends respectively. Apply woodworking glue to both ends of the long braces, insert the pre-prepared wooden pins (diameter 8mm, length 4cm), then align and splice the long braces with the bench legs, and tap them firmly with a hammer; then install the short horizontal braces, fixing them between the bench legs at both ends and below the long braces to further reinforce the structure, prevent the middle of the long bench from deforming and wobbling, and ensure uniform overall load-bearing. 5. Assembly of Seat and Bench Legs: Apply woodworking glue evenly on the top of the 4 bench legs, place the treated long bench top stably on the top of the bench legs, align the center position (ensure that both ends of the bench top extend 5cm beyond the bench legs for beauty and uniform force); drill a hole vertically from the top of the bench top (through the bench top to the top of the bench leg, the depth of the hole is about 3cm), insert a wooden pin to fix it, then sand the connection with sandpaper to remove excess glue and burrs. 6. Sanding and Polishing: Sand the entire surface of the long wooden bench with 80-grit coarse sandpaper, focusing on sanding the edges of the bench top and the joints between the bench legs and cross braces to remove all sharp edges and uneven areas; then sand it again with 120-grit fine sandpaper to make the surface smoother and more delicate; finally, wipe the surface with a clean cloth to remove wood chips and dust, ensuring no burrs scratch hands. 7. Finishing Treatment: (Optional) Apply a layer of wood wax oil evenly on the surface of the long wooden bench, let it stand for 1 hour until the wood wax oil is completely absorbed. It can not only protect the wood, prevent cracking and moisture, but also improve the gloss of the long bench, highlight the natural grain of the wood, extend its service life, and adapt to various scenarios such as home use and balconies. The entire production process does not require complex tools, the steps are simple and easy to understand, and the finished product is sturdy, durable and stylish.
