Let's start with this simple question: what does it mean to look at a work of art, an image in general? How do we look at it? What is the relationship between knowing and seeing, seeing and seeing again, seeing again and looking? Why must we look into the folds of the visible and, in doing so, engage with the folds of our own psyche? To explore these questions, we will reread Heidegger's "The Origin of the Work of Art." Then we will look again at Vermeer's The Lacemaker.
