The son of founder Kim Strauss, Eli’s been sharing the beauty and bustle of Bass Harbor for 20 years. A navy and merchant marine vet, he welcomed me aboard Fifinella, the boat he’s captained since he was sixteen. As we cruised past lobster boats and a bob of seals lounging on the rocks, Eli steered us toward the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. Its red beacon, burning for 162 years, still guides mariners along Maine’s rocky coast.
