Lecture on buried soil steel bridges in English I Leszek Janusz I #Brobyggardagen 2020

The lecture given by Leszek Janusz (the Chairman of Subsurface Soil Structure Interaction Committee in Transportation Research Board in Washington) presented during Brobyggardagen 2020 – the Bridge Builder Day in Göteborg, Sweden. The presentation covers the subject of buried soil steel bridges in a nut shell: its history, development of technology, system of shapes, sizes, corrugations and production process. Leszek Janusz comments on design objectives, research studies and tests carried out in relation to maintenance, durability, fatigue and corrosion issues of soil steel composite bridges. He mentions the on-going full scale tests conducted in Poland and Canada aimed at improving the design method of CSPS, afterwards describes the life cycle analysis, environmental impact, resilience and sustainability of the structures. Going further he underlines the advantages over conventional bridges in terms of environmental footprint. Finally he presents a number of examples of CSPS successful applications all over the world.
