Thanks for watching! Join us :) Post-war ambulances in the USSR consisted primarily of fairly simple vehicles on GAZ truck chassis. They were manufactured at local provincial repair factories. Over time, similar vehicles on the more modern GAZ-51 chassis were added. The ambulance fleet also included the huge, comfortable, and powerful ZIS-110, based on government limousines. Large and comfortable, only 48 of these were produced between 1949 and 1954. Slightly more GAZ-12 ZIM ambulances were produced. However, judging by surviving materials, there were very few Pobeda ambulances—even photographs of them are very rare. GAZ M-20 Pobeda ambulances were actively used for transporting medical personnel and providing home care for patients. These vehicles were virtually indistinguishable from production vehicles, but were easily recognizable by the "Ambulance" sign and an additional headlight with a red cross on the roof. But for the transportation of bedridden patients, a special batch of Pobeds was manufactured at one of the motor pools affiliated with the Ministry of Health. A rigid partition with a window for communicating with the doctor was added behind the driver's seat. The rear seat was divided in two. The right side was left unchanged, and a small rigid seat with a folding backrest was installed in the place of the left. When this seat was folded, it created a flat, level floor—an extension of the wooden flooring in the trunk. Primitive guides were attached to this flat surface, along which standard stretchers were rolled. The stretcher's length (180 cm) allowed for the transportation of even tall patients. The spare tire had to be mounted vertically on the right. To accommodate this, the gas tank was slightly modified—otherwise, the spare tire wouldn't fit.
