It's capital, financial center, and most populated city is sinking beneath the ocean. Every year the city sinks between 10 and 20 centimeters and during the wet season thousands are displaced every year. So, in order to combat this inevitable crisis, Indonesia has decided to build a gleaming new capital city in the highlands of Borneo. But there's just one problem: it's a disaster! In this video, we'll cover the extensive geography of Indonesia and how in became it's own country, why Jakarta grew as large and as fast as it did (with the help of the Dutch), why the city is sinking beneath the ocean today, and, finally, why Nusantara, Indonesia's brand new capital city, has been such a disaster. -- Stock footage and music acquired from www.envato.com, www.storyblocks.com and videvo.net.
