Marketplace Score | Vintage Singer Fashion Mate 257 Sewing Machine

I was looking on Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji for a portable sewing machine to use for an upcoming project I have in mind with a fellow YouTuber, Shannon "Sherona" Anderson from The Thrifty Fashionista channel. You can find her channel here:    / @fashionwithshannona   Anyway, I wanted one that was portable as opposed to a big treadle machine since I don't have the room to have it set up all the time. I wanted portable, hopefully with a case that I could haul out when I wanted to sew and then put it away until the next time. I contacted my friend Patricia Garland to ask her recommendations for what to look for. She told me that the vintage machines stand the test of time unlike the plastic untested models of machines produced today. I found a Sears Kenmore unit but the seller took her time getting back to me to set up a time to meet to look at it and possibly buy it. Well, hubby got on his phone and found me this beauty. It covers all my specifications ; cover, portable, vintage, all the features I was looking for. The seller of the Singer Fashion Mate had it originally listed at $200 (Canadian dollars) then reduced it by half! My husband offered her $30 as that is all I had and surprise - she took it! This just proves that if you don't ask, you won't know. We checked on eBay.ca and found this same model of machine listed for $125. plus $70 and change for shipping. It is HEAVY. Let me tell you it is a workout lifting this. It appears as I use this I will have some wonderful sewing craft items plus I will have great upper body strength.
