Many people are expected to contribute to the success of this special cruise, a luxurious sailing experience aboard a tall ship from Kiel to Sylt. Cruise director Devi Möller's task: to keep approximately 100 cruise passengers satisfied on Germany's newest tall ship, the brand-new "Sea Cloud Spirit." This is her daily challenge. The 67-year-old, who lived in Kiel for many years, is the hostess for the passengers on the voyage from Kiel via Copenhagen and Sylt to Hamburg. As a jack-of-all-trades, she takes care of the daily program, coordinates shore excursions with the captain, and handles passenger feedback. Maneuvering the 138-meter-long, three-masted full-rigged ship requires skill. Vukota Stojanovic, 35, from Montenegro, has only been captain of the "Sea Cloud Spirit" for two months. The cheapest cabin costs 720 euros per person per night. Passengers expect sailing as often and for as long as possible, just as promised in the brochure. On the way from Kiel to Copenhagen, there's only a light breeze, and headwinds are even forecast from Skagen onwards. Are the two announced "days under sail" really feasible? On board, alongside several passionate amateur sailors, is Uwe Schneidewind from Kiel. He sailed as a cabin boy on the legendary sailing ship "Pamir" and now plans the cruises for the Hamburg-based shipping company Sea Cloud. But will he actually get to see the new ship under full sail? For Sarah Reinhardt, a young restaurant professional from Bad Schwartau, this is her first time working in restaurant service on board a cruise ship. Stress is guaranteed; sometimes her shift begins before sunrise with setting up the early bird buffet on the Lido Deck. With a mast height of 61.30 meters, the "Sea Cloud Spirit" can't pass under the 57-meter-high Danish Øresund Bridge. And the trip to the port of List on Sylt is also a navigational challenge. The tall ship has a draft of 5.80 meters, but the channel in the Lister Tief is only 3.50 meters deep. Captain Stojanovic has to wait for high tide, the highest water level. And, as a precaution, he's taken pilot Uwe Schmidt from Meldorf on board as an advisor. Because the three-masted vessel can't dock in any port on the island of Sylt, it will anchor in the Lister Roads, and the passengers will be brought ashore by large tender boats. Sylt sommelier Nils Lackner is already waiting there, ready to bring oysters from the Wadden Sea for a tasting on board.
