August is the purple month, for raising awareness of violence against women. According to the CNJ portal: "The courts judged 10,991 femicide cases, the killing of women due to contempt or discrimination against their status as women, in 2024. This is the highest number since 2020, when the records of the new Violence Against Women Panel of the National Council of Justice (CNJ) began, launched on March 11, 2025, during the 3rd Ordinary Session of 2025. According to data from the panel, in 2024, the increase in femicide cases judged was more than 225% (10,991) compared to 2020 (3,375). The number of new cases in 2024 also increased: a total of 8,464 cases were registered. Even so, the number of cases judged exceeded the number of new cases for that year. 'This number grows every year, which reveals the demand for the Justice System to protect women,'" "In this context, the development of the panel proves to be of great importance, so that we can promote public policies to guarantee the fundamental rights of Brazilian women," observed the president of the CNJ and the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Minister Luís Roberto Barroso.
