One day, Thomas was linking the passenger cars. He was angry because he never pulled a passenger train alone; the other trains didn't listen to him. Later, Henry got sick and couldn't pull the train. Thomas took pity on Henry and wanted to pull the train alone. He organized the cars and waited. Soon, the Fat Controller appeared and asked about Henry. James's conductor said he was sick. The Fat Controller said to find another locomotive, but the conductor said that Thomas was the only one left. The Fat Controller said that Thomas could pull the express train, and he went to couple it. However, after Thomas left, his coupling wasn't attached to the express train, and he drove away, leaving the express behind. After stopping at a red signal, he realized he hadn't been coupled to the train and reversed the entire line he had traveled. He arrived at the station, was reattached to the train, and left.
