Wie ein Trauma entsteht und wie du es verarbeiten kannst | Quarks

After a motorcycle accident, this man is suffering from trauma. He sustained severe injuries but has no memory of the accident. The trauma causes him to suffer from sleep disturbances and panic attacks that no doctor can explain. What happened here? The brain was unable to process the vast amount of information from the accident. However, nerve impulses cause this information to reach long-term memory unfiltered and be stored there. This causes unconscious fears and a great deal of stress. Such a trauma can have many consequences and burden the affected person for a long time. EMDR therapy is intended to help resolve the trauma and retrieve and process memories. In this therapy, the eyes are moved back and forth, as in the deep sleep phase. During the deep sleep phase, we process our experiences. Therefore, if the body is artificially shifted into this phase, this, together with a therapist's consultation, can ensure that buried memories return and a trauma can be processed.
