Kedahge Viyalie Metha Urges Unity, Patriotism at 79th Nagaland Independence Day Thenyizumi, Chakheshang Region | August 14, 2025 Addressing the 79th Nagaland Independence Day celebration at Thenyizumi Village, Kedahge Gen. (Retd.) Viyalie Metha reaffirmed the Nagas’ historical and legal claim to sovereignty, recalling the declaration of independence on August 14, 1947, and the 1951 voluntary plebiscite in which 99.9% voted to remain independent. Metha praised the sacrifices of past generations, calling on every Naga to “rekindle the patriotic fervour to rise as one nation and people under God.” He stressed that political or personal differences must not undermine unity, especially in the face of continued challenges. Highlighting the responsibility of the younger generation, Metha urged them to create an environment for a “thriving and vibrant future” rooted in constitutional rights, duties, and national values. He also thanked the Naga Plebiscite Commission and cultural performers for keeping alive the spirit of historic milestones like the 75th Naga Plebiscite Day.
