Ban Bueng, Don Raet Subdistrict, Rattanaburi District, Surin Province, a small village in the Thung Kula Rong Hai area, is home to nearly every household who raises cattle and buffalo, inherited from their parents. When children get married, parents give them cattle and buffalo, calling this inheritance "Mun Mang." Therefore, cattle and buffalo are extremely important to the villagers here. They serve as friends, banks, collateral, and financial support for their children's education. Children become owners because of cattle and buffalo, so they love and care for them like their own children. The cattle and buffalo here are treated like family members. In the morning, they are taken out to graze in the fields and brought back home in the evening. The villagers' life in the fields has developed into a small community of herders. Even though they come from different areas, when their cattle and buffalo are released to graze, they often gather together to engage in activities such as eating lunch and foraging for food such as field mice, frogs, toads, and crabs. This fosters a bond of love that doesn't require money. Simply loving the same animals can make them friends. The love of cattle and buffalo in this village has also been passed down to the village children. Besides having cattle as playmates, they also have them as pets. For example, 13-year-old Pam and 9-year-old Tar, two siblings, are immersed in these animals, grazing them in the fields and feeding them. Their knowledge of raising them is learned from their parents, who teach them, and the children develop a strong bond. The local way of life not only reveals the lingering connection between traditional rural villagers, but also reflects the wisdom of our ancestors in bequeathing their children cattle and buffalo, assets that act as a bank, accessible at any time. Continuing on, we visit Ban Ton, Raeng Subdistrict, Sikhoraphum District, Surin Province. This village is known as the "Village of the Hoy" (Mr. Hoy), with almost every household still working as a Hoy. Both old and new generations work as Hoy. The cattle trade here remains vibrant, with Sampao Maithong, 43, a skilled and skilled Hoy Wao, a Hoy Wao known for his elusive negotiating skills. Having experienced this type of work since childhood, these days, the cattle farmers drive their motorcycles to search for cattle in nearby villages and collect them in their pens before taking them to sell at the Sri Khoraphum cattle market, which opens every Saturday. The market is crowded with thousands of pickup trucks and trucks from early morning. These farmers come from provinces throughout the Northeast and other regions, such as Roi Et, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Phrae, Nan, Uthai Thani, and Phetchaburi. These farmers bring the cattle they've purchased to sell here. In addition to selling, they also buy cattle. At this cattle market, there's a type of cattle farmers who don't have to invest anything, except for their mouths, which require skilled negotiation. This type of cattle farmers are called "rope-handed cattle farmers," who act like models. They select cattle with good characteristics to sell on demand. The rope-handed cattle farmers work along the road in front of the market, where they line up to wait for their vehicles to arrive to sell. When a suitable cattle or buffalo is found, as requested by the employer, known as the "Nai Hang," he or she immediately rushes in to negotiate. Once a price is agreed upon, the "Nai Hoi" (grabbing the rope) will follow the vehicle, sometimes jumping onto the vehicle and directing the owner to the location where the buyer or owner is waiting to buy. Some "Nai Hoi"'s duties extend beyond just selling. Sometimes, they also deliver cattle to customers' homes. Furthermore, they provide advice on raising them, ensuring that buyers can properly raise their cattle, resulting in excellent characteristics and a high price. This is a genuine act of kindness and honesty. The owners here all agree that this profession generates income and brings happiness to the locals. They are happy and continue to do so until they can no longer afford it. "Nai Hoi" is a profession that has long been entwined with the local way of life. After every cattle purchase, a permit is required to remove the cattle from the buyer's home, known as a "bai pak khok."
