Hello, I'm Rin. In today's vlog, I'm sharing a Thursday half day off in Japan — and an honest look at where my salary really goes. Every month, over ¥80,000 is automatically deducted from my paycheck before I even see it. Health insurance, pension, income tax, residence tax. It quietly disappears. On this day off, I went shopping at MUJI and Hankyu Department Store in Takarazuka. Clothing is taxed at 10%. Food is taxed at 8%. Alcohol is taxed at 10% too — which I only remembered after I'd already left the store. There was a Hokkaido food fair at the department store. I bought rice crackers, matsumae-zuke, and tsubu-wasabi. And I found umegaemochi, a sweet from Fukuoka, on the way out. In Japan, investment gains are normally taxed at 20%. With NISA, they're not. For dinner, I laid out goma-saba from Fukuoka — delivered through furusato nozei, Japan's hometown tax system — alongside Hokkaido seafood I bought that afternoon. Without leaving Takarazuka, I ate the flavors of Hokkaido and Fukuoka. Taxes were everywhere today. But I took a little back. Just a regular Thursday.
