Jeannette Armstrong was one of 45 leading scholars, authors and activists who convened at The Great Hall of Cooper Union, New York City, on October 25-26, 2014, for the public presentation: "Techno-Utopianism and the Fate of the Earth." Speakers discussed the profound impacts—environmental, economic and social—of runaway technological expansionism and cyber immersion; the tendency to see technology as the savior for all problems. She currently holds the Canada Research Chair in Okanagan Indigenous Knowledge and Philosophy at UBC Okanagan. She has a Ph.D. in Environmental Ethics and Syilx Indigenous Literatures. She was awarded British Columbia’s Community Achievement Award in 2012. She is the recipient of the EcoTrust Buffett Award for Indigenous Leadership. She currently serves on Environment Canada’s Traditional Knowledge Subcommittee on the Status of Endangered Species and Wildlife in Canada.
