In 1806, the British invaded the Río de la Plata and captured Buenos Aires during the First British Invasion. On 12 August, Santiago de Liniers led the Reconquest of the city with the support of thousands of civilians, who fought alongside the Creole forces from the streets, rooftops, and windows. Among the participants were the young Juan Manuel de Rosas, Martín Miguel de Güemes, Martín de Álzaga, and Manuela Pedraza.
