President Donald Trump made a major announcement Thursday related to safeguarding Americans from a common concern with burgeoning data centers nationwide. Trump made the announcement at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) headquarters in Washington, D.C. alongside a number of governors from around the United States. Tropical Storm Bertha entered Texas on Thursday afternoon as rain spread across the Gulf Coast. Bertha is bringing gusty winds, rough seas and periods of heavy rain to the Louisiana coast on Thursday. The storm's first landfall happened about 2 p.m. CT Wednesday near the Biloxi Wildlife Management Area in St. Bernard Parish, according to the National Hurricane Center. By 1 p.m. Thursday, the NHC said Bertha had moved into Texas near the Louisiana border. Federal health officials are investigating a new outbreak of cyclospora, a microscopic parasite that causes severe diarrheal illness, after 72 people were reported sick as of Wednesday. The new investigation comes as federal officials remain focused on a separate multistate cyclospora outbreak potentially linked to lettuce from Taylor Farms. Last week, the company announced a recall of iceberg lettuce grown in central Mexico. The Madison police chief on Thursday said the officer-involved shooting that killed a man, who the department said was armed with a knife, is being investigated as a homicide. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is "fully in charge" of the investigation, Chief John Patterson said Thursday. He said the Madison Police Department will fully cooperate with the investigation.
