Website: https://thechurchsplit.com The Network: https://onelifenetwork.org/ Discord: / discord SINKO Game: https://sinkogame.com/TCS10 In this response, I break down the cross-examination between Jeremiah Nortier and Dr. Leighton Flowers on Romans 8, Romans 9, the “golden chain,” foreknowledge, glorification, and unconditional election. Nortier presses Flowers hard on Romans 8:30 and the meaning of “glorified,” arguing that Flowers’ view struggles with the future bodily resurrection context of Romans 8. And honestly, I think Nortier lands a real point there. But does that mean Calvinism wins? Not even close. In this video, I argue that while Flowers’ specific “past saints” reading of Romans 8 may not be the strongest non-Calvinist approach, Nortier still overreaches by turning Romans 8–9 into an abstract doctrine of individual unconditional election and reprobation. Using a socio-rhetorical lens, we look at the broader flow of Romans: suffering, glory, Israel, Gentiles, covenant faithfulness, hardening, mercy, and God’s promises. Romans 9 is not Paul randomly dropping a Calvinistic decree into the middle of the letter. It is Paul wrestling with Israel’s unbelief and Gentile inclusion in the story of God’s covenant purposes. So yes, Nortier may have won a point. But did he prove Calvinism? No. In fact, I think he lost the plot of Romans. Topics I wants to cover: Romans 8 and the golden chain Foreknowledge and predestination Glorification and resurrection Romans 9 in context Jacob and Esau Israel and Gentile inclusion The problem of divine determinism Why faith is not a meritorious work A socio-rhetorical critique of both sides If you enjoy biblical theology, anti-Calvinist responses, and deeper contextual readings of Scripture, make sure to like, comment, and subscribe. 🎙️ New to streaming or looking to level up?
