Book vs. Broadway: Wicked

My incredibly biased take on the book "Wicked, The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" by Gregory Maguire, comparing it to the Broadway show Wicked. The Wicked musical had music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, and book by Winnie Holzman. Spoiler: I disliked Maguire's book intensely, and think he borrowed all of the characters and plot for his novel from the novel Dr. Zhivago, by Boris Pasternak, (video here:    • The Origins of the book Wicked  ) and from The Weetzie Bat books by Francesca Lia Block. So here is my synopsis of Maguire's book, and a comparison of that to the Broadway show of Wicked, which I liked marginally more than the book. Then I go through how I think Maguire adapted Block's characters into his own book. If you're a fan of Maguire, don't watch this video! I think his book is bad. And it seems like he copied someone else's characters. Get ready for the Wicked movie by catching up on the source material!    • Book vs. Movie: The Wizard of Oz
