The Czech Republic recorded its highest temperature on record as an intense heatwave gripped much of Europe. In Prague, residents and tourists sought relief by cooling off under water sprays, using umbrellas for shade and gathering around fountains as temperatures soared. A high of 41.1 Celsius (106 Fahrenheit) was recorded in Doksany, north of Prague. Outdoor restaurants deployed fans and sprinklers to help customers cope with the extreme heat.
