America's Best Comics No.12 Conservation Episode 3. In this video i continue Comic Book Conservation process on a copy of America’s Best Comics #12 from January of 1945. This is an desirable issue featuring a war effort cover by the incomparable Schomburg and also a rare comic book. The CGC Census has only 16 Universal copies with a median grade of 5.5 and the highest in the Census being a 9.0. In this episode i start the wet cleaning and de-acidification (Chemical Stabilization) process and separate the cover and 1st wrap, which we discovered last video were glued together. I review the relevant paper conservation literature, the chemical solutions used, and the decision-making process to match the correct materials and techniques to the conservation project at hand.
