Luxus-Alkoven mit Slideouts: 18 m² auf unter 8 m – das ist kein Wohnmobil, das ist eine Wohnung!
Seen at: PROTEC GmbH & Co. KG Argelsrieder Feld 1a 82234 Weßling Germany Tel.: +49 8152 9289900 Email: [email protected] https://protecmobil.com/ In this video, we'll introduce you to a camper van that redefines everything you can expect from a panel van – the Protech Q18 from Andechs in Bavaria is a top-of-the-line motorhome that will completely captivate camping enthusiasts, vanlife lovers, and anyone looking for the perfect mobile home. Protech Exploring Innovations has developed the Q18, a vehicle based on an Iveco Daily chassis with 210 hp and optional all-wheel drive, while remaining under 8 meters in length and under 7.5 tons gross vehicle weight – a crucial advantage that will make all the difference in more and more cities and on more and more campsites. The exterior width is a mere 2.35 meters, including mirrors, which makes the Q18 look like a completely ordinary panel van when retracted – but what happens when the two full-width double slide-outs are extended will leave every motorhome enthusiast, camper, and panel van lover speechless. In less than 20 seconds, a compact, unassuming motorhome transforms into a living space of approximately 18 square meters – equivalent to a small student apartment and absolutely unique in the panel van and campervan segment. This is made possible by a slide-out system based on linear actuators from the Danish industrial group Linak, whose actuators are normally designed for up to one million cycles in agricultural machinery and hospital beds – meaning they simply won't be pushed to their limits in motorhome use. The air seals, which make the system weatherproof and windproof when extended, are vacuum-depressurized before the slide-outs move, ensuring a precise industrial system that protects the interior and prevents any drafts or heat loss. Thermal imaging of the vehicle shows virtually no heat loss through the sandwich walls – the only significant thermal bridge is the windows, which are available in plastic or glass. Inside, the Protech Q18 offers up to six full-size sleeping berths, depending on the layout, theoretically expandable to eight thanks to the lowering table in the seating area. It features two complete bedrooms, each with a single bed that easily converts into a double bed measuring 137 x 200 centimeters, a spacious corner area with hanging storage, a kitchen with an induction cooktop, a fully equipped dishwasher with ignition-switched locking, and a 60-centimeter deep work surface, just like at home. There's also a spacious bathroom finished in Corian, a 32-inch ceiling monitor that swivels towards the seating area, and a Webasto 3030 series auxiliary heater. Instead of traditional underfloor heating, an innovative heated carpet provides pleasant radiant warmth underfoot. The conversion is produced entirely in Bavaria in small batches, where sandwich panels are delivered according to in-house design drawings and assembled into complete slide-out modules. The quality is automotive-grade, not typical of camper vans, as founder Nico, who comes from professional motorsports and has developed racing cars with carbon fiber components, wheel carriers, and wind tunnel aerodynamics, makes unequivocally clear. The Q18's curb weight is 5.9 tons in its basic configuration, and it can be upgraded to 7.49 tons. The payload of up to 1.4 tons is exceptionally high for a vehicle in this class and allows for the complete realization of all requirements regarding battery, accessories, and outdoor equipment. Up to 1,000 watt-hours of lithium battery capacity can be installed. Solar panels replace the traditional roller blind on the slide-out roof, and a 5 kW alternator from a partner company is available as an option. This alternator delivers 3.8 kW charging power when stationary and a full 5 kW while driving – enough to power the air conditioning, induction loop, and all other electrical consumers simultaneously. Those who prefer a gas-free version can also order the new Protech model – the development of a completely gas-free conversion is already complete. The vehicle is available in two layouts, fully customizable in terms of colors, surfaces, fronts, and furniture design. Optional features include switchable all-wheel drive based on the original Daily 4x4 chassis, eliminating transfer case issues thanks to axle conversion, as well as a retractable entry step, Fiamma awning brackets, and a separate ladder for easy access to the raised bed. Prices start at €325,000 including leveling jacks – all-wheel drive, custom equipment and special requests are extra.
