Chuncheon Dam Begins Discharge to Prepare for Additional Heavy Rain Nakdong River Seongdeok Dam Cuts Water Supply by Up to 35,000 Tons Per Day Reservoir Levels Drop to 30% Due to Insufficient Precipitation in Dam Region [Anchor] While damage from heavy rain continues to increase in the central region, conversely, the Nakdong River basin is facing a situation where water supply is being reduced due to insufficient reservoir levels in dams. The government stated that there are currently no issues with drinking water supply and predicted that the drought will be resolved if sufficient rain falls during the remaining rainy season. Reporter Lee Moon-seok reports. [Reporter] A powerful stream of water gushes out from the dam's sluice gates. As additional heavy rain was forecast, Chuncheon Dam began discharging water to secure water reservoirs. On the same day, conversely, Seongdeok Dam on the Nakdong River reduced its daily water supply, including domestic water, by up to 35,000 tons. This is because the reservoir level dropped to 30% due to insufficient rainfall. Despite it being the rainy season, rainfall has been concentrated in specific areas, leading to drought in other regions. This is particularly true for the Nakdong River basin. Following the Andong, Imha, Miryang, and Yeongcheon dams on the Nakdong River, Seongdeok Dam has now entered the drought 'caution' stage, while Unmun Dam, which supplies water to Daegu and other areas, has been recording the worst 'severe' level since the 15th. The government stated that there are no issues with the supply of drinking water due to water diversions and water system switching. Of the 34 multi-purpose and water supply dams in the Four Major Rivers basins, rainfall at 33 locations—excluding Boryeong Dam on the Geum River—fell below the levels of previous years. The Seomjin River Dam and the Yeongsan River Pyeongnim Dam have also entered the drought 'concern' stage.
