My Personal Comic Book Canon

This video is probably the closest thing I have to an official comic book canon. The Official Great Comics, Great Responsibility Top 5 Comic Books, if you will. On this channel, I’ve already called a LOT of different comics “the greatest ever made.” And honestly? I meant it every time. But eventually I realized I needed to stop improvising and really think about which runs have mattered to me most consistently and most deeply across my life. I knew I needed to come up with a "canon" that I could stand by long-term. These are not just my favorite comics. These are the stories that shaped my emotional vocabulary, my taste, my interests, and honestly a huge part of my identity. These runs represent everything I love about comic books: adolescence, trauma, systems, heroism, reinvention, friendship, vigilance, survival, and the terrifying process of becoming a person. From The New Mutants to Checkmate, from Captain Marvel to Batwoman, and ultimately to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, this is the video where I finally attempt to define my own personal comic book canon.
