ROMAN FEVER, a Short Story by Edith Wharton
"Roman Fever" by Edith Wharton is a story about two middle-aged American women, Mrs. Slade and Mrs. Ansley, who reminisce about their past while overlooking the Roman Forum. As they converse, it becomes clear that their friendship is laced with underlying tension and secrets. Mrs. Slade reveals that she once wrote a fake letter to Mrs. Ansley, inviting her to the Colosseum at night, hoping to expose her to danger out of jealousy. However, Mrs. Ansley confesses...... twist ending I won't reveal here.
