Switching and Swapping [Advanced Monroe Style Bluegrass Improvising on Mandolin]

In this video we're explaining how to become more fluent creatively organizing Monroe Style devices to spruce up melody based breaks. We focus mostly on the Slidey Lick on the classic Flatt and Scruggs jam session song "Your Love is Like a Flower". First we learn how to put the device over the 4 chord (C chord in G) and then we learn how to use it over the 1 chord (G). We also briefly demonstrate how to use Staggered Arpeggios and the Bouncy Lick in the same fashion. Then we take the main arrangement up to the key of A to show how to transpose the approach. This can be a powerful lesson for someone looking to level up their jamming in a very traditional way which leaves room for individual creative expression and decision making.
