Ivano Dionigi - Dare to Know Auditorium San Barnaba, Brescia | Dare 2023, 18th edition We live in an age of complexity, or rather, imbalance, of multiple imbalances: the social imbalance of immigration; the environmental imbalance of the planet; the health imbalance of the pandemic; the political imbalance of war; the demographic imbalance of the declining birth rate. Add to this the technological monotheism that, allied with the economy, pushes both science and politics into a corner. Paradox adds to paradox: faced with globalization and its prophet, the Internet, we react with an apparatus of physical and mental walls; faced with the global web and the maximum of communication media, we experience the minimum of understanding; faced with the complexity and multiplication of economic, social, and moral problems, we reduce and impoverish language. Hence the need to understand, question, and innovate. To understand: "to grasp (legere) the inside (intus)" and "the relationship (inter)" of things. We need long-term thoughts that connect the dots, the parts, the knowledge. Questioning: inhabiting questions, in the knowledge that the ars interrogandi is more important and decisive than the ars respondendi. Invenire: "rediscovering" the notum we have buried and forgotten, and "inventing" the novum that is proposed and required of us.
