Easy Crochet Winter Hat~The Chunky Ripple Beanie

This hat is a quick, 1 skein project that makes a subtle but lovely pattern. I was inspired by the Taylyn Beanie pattern by Erin Oetker when writing this pattern. (If you have not purchased that pattern, I highly recommend it! It makes very lovely hats.) Erin created a stitch she dubbed the “front post half treble”, which makes a more raised ribbing with simply adding a chain to the base of your front post double crochet. I have decided to use her stitch in my hat to make the ribbing stand out a little more. For an Ad-free printable pdf of this pattern, see my Etsy and Ravelry shops at https://linktr.ee/dayscrochetnc. Please note that you do not have my permission to sell, illegally share, translate, copy, or duplicate this pattern or my photos in any way. Please do not use this pattern for a video, blog, or class tutorial. Thank you so much for following these simple rules! Please message me on Facebook or send me an email at [email protected] with any questions. Supplies Needed -Approximately 87-100 yards of any Super Bulky weight yarn (size 6) Note: I have used 1 skein of Lion Brand Hometown USA with only 81 yards for this hat, but I only had about 1.5 yards leftover. I recommend using Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick and Hometown USA. Just pay attention to yardage! Some Hometown USA has much less yardage, and you need at least 81 yards. I also recommend solid yarns for this hat. The pattern gets lost in variegated yarns. -size N 10.0 mm hook or size needed to obtain gauge -Yarn needle -scissors -stitch marker (optional) -embellishments of your choice Gauge I chose not to create a gauge swatch for this hat because you will be measuring the diameter of your hat after completing round 3. If your hat does not measure the diameter measurement, adjust your hook size accordingly. Finished Measurements: The finished product should fit a wide range of adult head sizes, from 20”-24” (51-61 cm) due to tremendous amount of stretch crocheting in the BLO gives you. The length of your finished hat should be approximately 9” (23 cm), including the brim. Front Post Half Treble Explained: YO, place your hook from front to back to front of post in indicated stitch. YO, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). YO, chain 1 (3 loops still on hook). YO, pull through 2 loops on hook, YO pull through last 2 loops on hook. You are essentially chaining 1 prior to completing a fpdc. Advanced crocheters may recognize these steps are similar to making a foundation double crochet. **don’t let the name of this stitch confuse you. The “treble” refers to the stitch’s height, NOT how it is made** Follow me on social media!
