He emphasized that the ulama's actions were purely an exercise of ijtihad (judgment), not subject to random comment. "Whatever the dynamics between them, we are not qualified to intervene. Just believe that each of them has his own ijtihad (intelligence) on how to guide this congregation in the best direction," Gus Kautsar said to the congregation. He questioned the ethical conduct of some, both students and lower-level administrators, who readily criticize and condemn senior clerics based solely on fragmentary narratives or viral videos on the internet. In particular, Gus Kautsar warned of the real danger of the principle of "luhumul ulama masmumah" (the flesh of scholars is poisonous). Referring to the view of Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal, he warned that anyone who dares to backbite a cleric will face a mortal threat to their faith. "Anyone who dares to even sniff, let alone consume, (backbiting a cleric) will have a sick heart and their faith will be at risk of death or su'ul khatimah," Gus Kautsar asserted. In closing, he urged all Nahdliyin members not to be easily provoked by hoaxes that could potentially divide the community.
