Oyama Shrine is a complex of three shrines: the "Mine Honsha" (Main Shrine) at the summit of Mt. Tateyama, the "Maetate Shrine" in Iwakura, and the "Chugu Kiganden" (Middle Shrine Prayer Hall) here in Ashikuraji. The Chugu Kiganden was once a central hub of Tateyama faith, visited by many ascetics and pilgrims as a base for climbing Mt. Tateyama. The shrine grounds are filled with towering Tateyama cedar trees over several hundred years old, and the atmosphere is mystical and powerful, making you feel refreshed just by walking around.
