A Road in England Changed the World? | Darlington

Most people would drive along North Road in Darlington without giving it a second thought. But this ordinary-looking road has an extraordinary story. In this video, I explore the hidden history of North Road, from the 80,000-year-old Bulmer Stone and the Great North Road, to the meeting between George Stephenson and Edward Pease that helped shape the future of the railway. Along the way, I visit one of Darlington's oldest pubs, the site of the world's first passenger railway station at Hopetown, and finish at Skerne Bridge, the oldest railway bridge in the world still carrying trains. Sometimes the biggest stories are hiding in the most ordinary places. 👍 If you enjoyed this walk around my hometown, please hit the Like button and subscribe for more travel and local history videos.
