We used concentrated lemon juice (citric acid), peroxide, and other organic reagents to try to recover gold from computer connector fingers (e-waste). The Challenge: To see if this method is truly a viable, non-toxic way to extract precious metal. The Timeline: This experiment took an astonishing 40 DAYS of observation and solution adjustments to achieve a result. The Final Result: We successfully recovered a usable amount of unrefined gold. However, we discuss the impracticality of the extended timeline and conclude whether or not this organic method is actually useful for gold recovery.
