She Does Extreme Sports… While Going Blind
I first came across Elizabeth when she commented on one of my Facebook posts, saying she wished more people spoke openly about sight loss, hearing loss, and extreme sports. And instantly I thought — you’re not just someone who wants to learn about this… you’re the perfect ambassador for it. Because Elizabeth doesn’t just take part in extreme sports — she lives for them. She climbs, she pushes herself, she tests her limits, and she absolutely refuses to let Usher Syndrome dictate what she can or can’t do. She’s bold, fearless, funny, sharp, and completely unapologetic about living life on the edge — and I loved every second of this conversation. In this video, we explore how she navigates sight loss and hearing loss while still chasing adrenaline, expanding her comfort zone, and adapting her techniques. We talk about mindset, fear, accessibility, the reality of managing a progressive condition, and the freedom she finds through movement and adventure. Our hope is simple: that someone watching this who feels limited, held back, or unsure of what’s possible will see Elizabeth’s story and realise that adventure doesn’t disappear with sight loss or hearing loss. It just looks different — and with the right support, you can still do the things that make you feel alive. You deserve adventure. You deserve confidence. You deserve to live boldly. ❤️ ⏱️ Timestamps 00:00 Intro 00:36 About Elizabeth02:37 Life with Usher Syndrome 05:36 Diagnosis 08:25 Diagnosis impact on sports 14:01 Impact of hearing loss 19:49 Getting into extreme sport with a disability 20:59 Disabled sport organisations 24:19 Final message 🔗 Support, Info & Helpful Resources CureUsher (support, research, community): https://cureushersyndrome.com RNIB (support services, rehab, information): https://www.rnib.org.uk Retina UK (events, peer support, research updates): https://www.retinauk.org.uk Vision Norfolk (local support across Norfolk): https://www.visionnorfolk.org.uk Adaptive & Extreme Sports Resources Braille Mountain Initiative (adaptive climbing community): Website: https://braillemountaininitiative.com Instagram: / braillemountaininitiative Paradox Sports (adaptive climbing, training & adventure community): Website: https://www.paradoxsports.org Instagram: / paradoxsports 🎥 About Me I’m Rob Sears — blind athlete, PT, sports therapist, and certified running & triathlon coach.
